Some activities help to clear the mind, to challenge yourself or to have fun. My interests do all three, and make me forget time.
AcroYoga:
Acroyoga sounds really relaxing, but it’s not. I practice more the acrobatic (solar) part of it, and that involves a lot of bone-stacking, balance, and strength. In 2018 I started with Acroyoga, in 2019 I did my first AcroYoga Solar Immersion (5 days training course), and in 2020 I did my first AcroYoga Lunar Immersion. Under normal circumstances, I enjoy training during lessons, jams (free practice) and at festivals.
Climbing:
I started indoor sports climbing 10 years ago. About 5 years ago, I added bouldering to it. Boulders are short climbing routes that require more technical skills, without the use of robes and harnesses. Last year I started climbing outdoor, an activity I would like to expand in the coming year.
OCR
In 2014, I did my first obstacle/mudrun. From that moment on I was hooked. I started running longer and more challenging runs and qualified for the OCR world championships. I ran the OCR world championships twice, in 2015 (Ohio, USA) and in 2016 (Ontario, Canada). I was involved in several OCR associations/federations. I organised the OCR European Championship twice, in 2016 and 2017 (both in The Netherlands). Currently, I don’t compete anymore, but do run OCR’s for fun.
Trailrunning:
Trailrunning takes place offroad, I love running in nature. Especially running in the mountains (Zugspitze, Schynige Platte, Ben Nevis, Mnt Blanc etc). Taking into account that The Netherlands is pretty flat, I don’t get to many chances to run in the mountains. But when I do, I enjoy every moment!
The Netherlands does offer some nice options for hiking. For instance the “Groene Hart” path and the “Pieterpad”. The last one is a long route from the north of The Netherlands to the south, totalling about 500km. In 2020 I finished the “Twentepad” (SP2) in one weekend.
